District XI: Believe in Me … A Digital Experience

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 05/31/2020
“District XI: Believe in Me” is a Kids Who Care original musical that celebrates kids, teachers and mentors who are changing the world every day. This new digital version isn’t a re-broadcast of a stage production, nor is it a virtual remake of the musical. Instead, it’s part virtual musical, part documentary that was rehearsed, recorded and edited into a unique show that is entertaining, moving and inspiring.

Kids Who Care Musical Theatre – a nonprofit international theatre company founded in 1989 that produces creative and confident kids through musical theatre education, performance and leadership opportunities – announced that its “District XI: Believe in Me” stage performance originally scheduled for May 15 at the W.E. Scott Theatre in Fort Worth, Texas has been re-imagined and recreated as a new kind of digital, virtual performance that will premiere May 31, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. on its Facebook channel.

“During this school year, which was flipped on its head by COVID-19, this musical’s message is more poignant and powerful than ever,” said Deborah Jung, founding executive director of Kids Who Care. “Produced by local playwrights and musicians, including the young actors in the Kids Who Care Resident Company, this unique production of ‘District XI: Believe in Me’ reminds us that, together, we can build and provide the education our children need and deserve -- despite any obstacle!”

In addition to musical theatre education, Kids Who Care provides leadership training via a proprietary “KidPower” model, which is based on three basic powers Jung discovered children possess that we often lose as adults: 1) kids are tenacious, 2) kids expect the answer to be yes and 3) kids believe in the impossible.

“So when COVID-19 came to town and shut down schools, shut down theatres and shut down the building where Kids Who Care operates, we looked at the challenges we faced through the powerful eyes of children,” said Jung.

Through that lens, Kids Who Care quickly pivoted to online classes, training and rehearsals plus added two free daily programs via Facebook Live to connect with children and adults everywhere. Then, they re-imagined their end-of-year stage production to create “District XI: Believe in Me … A Digital Experience.”
