Milwaukeeans celebrate the power and diversity of women’s creativity at SWAN Day MKE 2019, an annual art exhibition at the Urban Ecology Center - Menomonee Valley. Over one-hundred artists, a community art build, dance and more will be featured as part of the 12th Annual International Support Women Artists Now Day.
2019 Theme: "Water: Reflection, Ritual & Resource"
How has water shaped your internal and external landscape? How does it connect you to place, people, ritual, ancestry? What creation, birth, destruction or disruption have you witnessed related to water? When has water inspired a sense of wonder? Why is water important to you? To us?
Each piece reflects a response to these prompts based on the artist's thoughts, relationship, experience, or practice related to water. Viewers are encouraged to join the conversation through a response wall.
Women-identified artists of all ages, disciplines and levels of artistic experience residing in Milwaukee and surrounding areas will be invited to participate in this informal, non-juried celebration and exhibition. Now in its fourth year, SWAN Day MKE participants continue to explore broader themes of women’s artistic & spiritual connections to nature, and how these roots nourish one’s work, activism and daily living.
