Milwaukee German Immersion School (MGIS) provides English-speaking pupils with the opportunity to learn German in a school where German is the primary language of instruction. Children receive reading instruction in German beginning in K4. MGIS has won numerous honors through the years, including the prestigious Melba D. Woodruff Award from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages in 2014. This award is given to only one school in the United States every year.
