Join the Department of Film, Video, Animation & New Genres at UWM’s Peck School of the Arts for a week-long film production camp! This comprehensive experience will include workshops on Storytelling & Screenwriting, Cinematography & Lighting, Directing & Acting, and Post-Production & Editing throughout a series of hands-on studio and lab activities led by department instructors. Plus bonus workshops in Film Score Theory & Design or Animation Techniques.

The Department of Film, Video, Animation & New Genres at UWM’s Peck School of the Arts welcomes young filmmakers to develop their skills at a week-long day camp this summer! Choose from two comprehensive experiences: film camp (with optional overnight accommodations) and advanced film camp. Both camps include hands-on workshops and sessions led by practicing artists and professors, so participants gain knowledge from experienced professionals.

Housing & Accommodations
Coming from out of town or want to enrich your UW-Milwaukee experience? Overnight accommodations with evening activities are available by registering for the overnight program. On-campus housing includes a shared double bedroom, bathroom and kitchen as part of a four-bedroom suite. Includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, Wifi, air conditioning, linens, shuttle service to program, evening activities and 24-hour secure staffing. Check-in is Sunday, June 23 and check-out is Friday, June 28.

Workshops & Sessions

  • Storytelling & Screenwriting
    Learn how to navigate an idea, structure a story and format a treatment and screenplay. Develop ideas that you will shoot and edit during the week with fellow film camp students.
  • Cinematography & Lighting
    Learn basic techniques of camera operation, exposure control and visual design. Practice professional lighting in our lighting studio and greenscreen studio as well as on-location lighting set-ups. Light and shoot your ideas from your screenplay or treatment!
  • Directing & Acting
    Study the art of guiding actors and gain insight on performance with introductory directing and acting exercises.
  • Editing & Postproduction
    Use your footage to learn basic editing techniques with Adobe Premiere Pro in one of our editing labs. Edit your footage into a short project or reel that you can take with you!
  • Film Score Theory & Design or Animation Techniques
    These are optional workshops available during open editing lab.
